Rosacea Rant

Over the years that I have suffered from rosacea the number one thing that doctors recommend to reduce redness is laser treatment. Why is that? Is it because that's the easiest thing for them to recommend? Is it because they don't have to think about anything else that may effectively reduce or eliminate the redness? Maybe it's because there is really nothing else that can help?

With all the lotions, medications, and types laser treatments out there, there is really nothing that a doctor (at least any that I've had over the years) can do to eliminate rosacea and all of its symptoms.

What really irritates me is that no doctor (that I know of) talks about inflammation or how to reduce the redness and swelling caused by inflammation. Whether is it dietary changes or medications. That is something that can be done about rosacea.

It just ticks me off...

  1. Hi Tammy, I just happened on your blog. This post resonates with me. I share the same frustrations. My dermatologist prescribed antibiotics. Worked great, but I did not want to take antibiotics forever. After about a year and a half and a number of other health problems cropping up--achy joints, low energy, injured tendons, I quit the drugs to focus on finding the underlying causes. I've been experimenting with nutrition, as I had identified at least some food triggers for the rosacea. One I recently discovered is soy sauce. And then a friend told me that soy sauce has MSG. So I researched MSG. It's in everything. All processed food and most restaurant food. Which explains why I was having trouble isolating food triggers--there are so many and seemed so random. I am preparing all my food from scratch now--week 3 and my skin is clearer than it has been in years. And my energy is better. Also, check out The UltraMind Solution by Dr. Marc Hyman. He has many interesting things to say about inflammation, toxins, and nutrition. Best wishes, -Anne
